You thought you’re done lining up on cinemas? This movie is something you should not miss! What sounds perfectly spectacular to us is certainly the continuation with Ocean’s 8. This isn’t mostly a reboot, but rather a sequel of the on-going exploits of the Ocean family, with Debbie Ocean (Sandra Bullock) the estranged sister of Danny Ocean, who’s been planning for far too long a major heist.
Let’s talk about the cast first. The first image released from Ocean’s 8 was back in January, showing the primary cast riding on a rather empty looking New York City subway car. In the movie, they are a team of elite thieves, robbers, larcenists, attempting to rob from the city’s well-known annual Met Gala charity ball; an event that centers on fashion and has raised as much $12 in just one night. Watching the trailer, we can tell that their attempt is getting uptight and tensed, doing anything but blending in to their surroundings.
Here’s the list of this movie’s cast:
Sandra Bullock as Debbie Ocean, estranged sister to George Clooney’s Danny Ocean
Cate Blanchett as Lou
Rihanna as Nine Ball
Mindy Kaling as Amita
Awkwafina as Constance
Helena Bonham Carter as Rose
Anne Hathaway as Daphne Kruger
Sarah Paulson as Tammy
Other actors who are also in an unspecified roles are Dakota Fanning, Katie Holmes, Kim Kardashian West, Olivia Munn, Richard Armitage, and Richard Robichaux. Remarkably, Matt Damon will also be there reprising his role as Linus Caldwell from the original Ocean’s Trilogy.
The cast may be a lot different from Clooney’s disorganized crew but the movies are so related. We still of course get the dry, quick-witted sense of comedy as well as neat pacing and relatively smart action sequences that pivot on slight of hand. We have so much to expect from this talented and established cast!
A new trailer for Ocean’s 8 goes further into Debbie Ocean’s character backstory, but actually focuses more on the fun and the robbery plan.
Having watched the trailer, we know now the story line of this movie. Debbie Ocean is on a mission to pull off an epic heist during the Met Gala in New York City but she has to assemble an ideal of (all female) cons. These are: her partner in crime, Lou, celebrity Daphne Kluger, jewelry designer Amita, unassuming mom Tammy, sleight-of-hand artist Constance, hacker Nine Ball, and fashion designer Rose.
The original trilogy was okay for teens but did have many action, suspense, strong language, and some sexuality. It’s expected to see much of the same here, and of course, with a heavy dose of girl power.
Watching that 2-minute long trailer had me a good laugh, and a thumbs up already and that makes it more exciting to watch the movie very soon! These ladies are just big names and of course, real talent!
Ocean’s 8 will be released June 8. Yes, that’s a week after Deadpool 2, and a week before The Incredibles 2. Hhhm, now that’s a very interesting competition, right? What’s your bet?
